Throw and Let Go - Full Week Courses with Fran Marquis

October 5th Monday  - 9th Friday (Assuming Lockdown is eased by then)

One week courses where 5 (max) participants work for 5 days with 5 wheels available, and learn and refine their skills on the wheel such as making lidded vessels, designing and making sets of items and joining thrown work. A few of the best pots or sculptures made at the start of the week could be fired by the end of the week.  It is about choosing critically at the end of the week I will bisc fire about 10 pieces each, then participants return to glaze these when they are bisc fired at a pre-arranged date.  Letting go of pots made on the wheel allows a freedom which helps the learning process.

Cost £300 includes all materials, firing, teas & coffees & cakes/biscuits etc £60 deposit is required.

£20 extra for soup and bread and cheese lunch for 5 days, (or participants can bring sandwiches)

Please ask Fran if you are interested they are only suitable for students who have done enough throwing to know they will enjoy doing this for the full 5 days  - progress can be made quickly in this time.

One-to-One or Small Group Sessions

£40/hour or £60 for 2 hours for individual sessions.

If you want to come as a group of friends of family we can discuss rates and times to suit.

I do not generally have children in the groups but if a young person (ie under 16 years) wants to join a weekend or regular class this is possible if a parent, grandparent or carer comes along to do the class too.

pottery weekend in progress 2012

Classes are usually held in Springfield Creative Arts, 4 Springfield Terrace, Arbroath but groups can be taught in other places and I have been known to take my potters wheel to the Signal Tower Museum for a Maker's day, Arbroath College for a fun day, Church halls for talks and demos and to the Retreat up Glen Esk and other unusual spots to teach pottery and demonstrate throwing pots - not at each other, but on a wheel!  My microwave and hotpot have been to Hospitalfield for an Open Day, Stonehaven to an Art Group and for an expedition to the Scottish Potters Association annual weekend for speedy raku firing demos.

If you are interested in a workshop, a talk, community ceramic project, public art or a throwing or firing demonstration please get in touch - all options considered!
