I am a member of this association and would reccommend the shop at the House of Dun by Montrose which has a mixture of crafts: jewellry, felt and textile hats and scarves, ceramics - mine and others and paintings, photography, soaps, candles, wood-turning, glasses, suncatchers, cards and bags. Its a great place for presents and some of the work is of a really high standard - the cakes in the coffee shop are yummy too and the National Trust house has some stunning plasterwork and lovely antiques.
This is a beautiful and peaceful place with an artroom, in which I sometimes run courses, a swimming pool, a labyrinth, a walled garden, a small-holding and a steading in which guests can stay and relax. The food is lovely and the courses offer a great range of spiritual and creative options. worth checking out!
Bridge View Gallery is in Aberdeen and my work is exhibited there in a group show in the Silver Darlingz exhibition from 6th May to 17th July 2010. My work, ceramics, photographs and related prints, have been displayed in this gallery in the past, most recently in Hides & Habitats May to July 2009. The website has a good series of images of all the artists who have exhibited in these and other exhibitions.
Previous web site can still be accessed by clicking on this link. It shows previous community art work and other projects made prior to 2007, mostly in Aberdeen, before I moved house to Arbroath in Angus in August 2007.
If you are interested in following up my work on dreams and the theoretical background to this work click on this website and follow Fran Marquis-Faulkes "Hospitality to Imaginal Regions", the other papers presented on this website from the same conference are valuable too.
Currently 3rd October - 6th November, 2010 showing colourful painting by Francis Boag and an exhibition of ceramics by the Scottish Potters Association. Please visit and choose your favourite piece of ceramic work to receive the Alan Gaff award.
For the first time the catalogue for artists' open studios has moved down as far as Arbroath in Angus. So exhibition happened on the Open Studio dates 11th - 19th September and included work by local artists in the Arbroath based Red Shed Collective and in the Dundee based MIX group. A great place, designated as the Scottish Arts Council centre of Excellence which therefore, receives some funding. Courses are open to those other than glass artists and some funding is available. Hope to return one day!
The Scottish Potters Association was founded in 1974 and is a members run organisation aiming to promote all aspects of ceramics (hand made pottery and ceramic sculpture) and is open to anyone with an interest in the subject. A map is available from the SPA and is very useful if you are travelling around Scotland and wish to visit potters in their workshops or galleries, wherever they are. The website is also full of interesting information and has examples of members work. Current exhibition is at Just Art in Fochabers and there is a good website showing all the available work, see below. Next exhibition at Milton of Crathes in March 2011 - see website for more information.
A beautiful site with lovely restaurant run by Buchanans, a gallery, good for 2D work and a really imaginative programme of musical performances and theatre. A gem of the North East.
